The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) honoured leadership and accomplishment among its membership in all parts of the country with the presentation of awards at its national conference last weekend in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Elmo Russell, of the Eastern Newfoundland Home Builders’ Association, won the Beaver Award, presented to the outstanding builder member of the year/
Mary Kenny of the Central Nova Scotia Home Builders’ Association won the Maple Leaf Award as the outstanding non-builder member for 2004.
Richard Lind of the South Shore Home Builders’ Association won the Gordon S. Shipp Award in recognition of leadership, dedication, and continuous lengthy service to the CHBA at the national level.
The Colonel Boss Trophy, awarded to the homebuilders’ association making the greatest progress in achievement compared to the previous year, went to the Saskatoon and Region Home Builders’ Association.
The William M. McCance Award for outstanding contribution to the homebuilding industry in the technical area went to Mike Hennigar of the South Shore Home Builders’ Association.
The Riley Brethour Award for marketing and sales excellence was presented to Don Darling of the Sussex and District Home Builders’ Association.
Greg Hussey of the Eastern Newfoundland Home Builders’ Association won the R-2000 Award for his contribution to the advancement of quality, energy-efficient housing through the R-2000 Program.
The Harry J. Long Memorial Trophy for the highest increase in membership was awarded jointly to the Calgary Region Home Builders’ Association and the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association.
The Dave Bell Memorial Award for the promotion of education and training programs for members went to the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia.
Individual awards were also presented to a number of recipients at the conference.
Rooftopper of the Year Award for the highest number of credits for new members (association under 100 category) went to Vern Hartwig, of the Quinte Home Builders’ Association.
Rooftopper of the Year Award (association over 100 members) went to Deep Shergill of the Calgary Region Home Builders’ Association.
The Dave Stupart Award of Honour for the executive officer of the year (full-time) went to Rhonda Day of the Eastern Newfoundland Home Builders’ Association.
The Executive Officer Council Communication Award went to Sharon Copithorne of the Edmonton Region Home Builders’ Association.
The Susan Chambers Award of Recognition for the Initiation and Development of Non-Dues Sources of Revenue was presented to Grant Ainsley of the Alberta Home Builders’ Association.
The CHBA is the national voice of the residential construction industry, representing more than 7,000 member firms across the country.
