Allied Properties to invest $30 million in Canadian Broadcast Centre in Toronto

Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust plans to lease space at the Canadian Broadcast Centre in downtown Toronto and spend $30 million to make the facilities suitable for telecommunications and information technology firms. Allied REIT already owns three other buildings in Toronto, including an Internet hub and telecommunications interconnection point at 151 Front Street West.

“The premises at 250 Front Street West will have significant floor-loading and freight-elevator capacity, over 14 foot clear ceiling height, access to Enwave deep-water cooling and a dedicated electrical service of 9 MVA with two 11 MVA dedicated feeders,” the firm stated in a press release. “Allied expects to invest approximately $30 million in the premises with a view to establishing it as a premiere facility in Canada.”

Allied REIT already owns three other buildings in Toronto with a total of 340,000 square feet of specialized space for telecommunications and information technology firms. One of the properties, at 151 Front Street West, at University Avenue, is an Internet hub and telecommunications interconnection point.

As of March 8, 2013, Allied REIT will start a 49-year lease of 168,000 square feet at 250 Front Street West, which is the CBC building across the road from the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The other properties in Toronto are at 905 King Street West at Strachan Avenue and at 60 Adelaide Street East at Church Street.
