SAINT JOHN, N.B.—The federal government has announced spending amounting to more than $21 million on rehabilitation and upgrades to several Parks Canada sites in New Brunswick.
The projects include rehabilitation work on the Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site; recapitalization and rehabilitation of numerous visitor facilities and campground service buildings in Fundy National Park; and recapitalization work on over 40 kilometres of trails.
The announcements were made by Catherine McKenna, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, on Jan. 17.
The New Brunswick jobs are part of a total package of planned investments totalling $3 billion over five years on Parks Canada projects involving infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada.
The Carleton Martello Tower Rehabilitation project has a value of $13.5 billion and includes design work and construction on structural upgrades and long-term restoration and conservation work to the tower.
The list of projects at Fundy National Park includes $2.7 million to rehabilitate kitchen shelters and service buildings; $1.5 million to rehabilitate an administration building; and $488,000 to rebuild a pool bathhouse. Redesign and rebuilding of back-country trails is valued at $1.8 million.
