HHCA to partner with Habitat for Humanity

HAMILTON, ONT.—The Hamilton-Halton Construction Association (HHCA) has announced a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Hamilton to sponsor a home build in celebration of the organization’s centennial in 2020.

The announcement was made at the association’s annual Christmas luncheon Nov. 25.

"Habitat Hamilton has been the HHCA’s preferred charity since 2002," said HHCA president Matt Vervoorn in a statement. "A home build was the obvious choice when the association began considering a legacy project in celebration of our 100th anniversary. It’s an ambitious undertaking but we’re confident our membership and the industry will rise to the occasion and help us support a family in need."

The idea for a full build came out of the HHCA’s Women in Construction (WIC) Group who are leading the initiative on behalf of the association, indicates a release. The WIC is meeting monthly and plans are already well underway to raise the $200,000 in cash and in-kind donations to see the project completed.

As a registered charity, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is able to issue tax receipts for all donations, monetary, material or skilled labour.

"As a construction association, the HHCA is in a bit of a unique situation in terms of fundraising, especially in-kind donations," said Sean Ferris, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton executive director. "Donations of new material are extremely helpful and skilled labour is always in high demand."

A webpage will be launched early in the new year. In the meantime, donations can be made through the donations page at www.habitathamilton.ca.
