CMHC to develop affordable homes on Toronto’s Parliament Street

The federal government and the City of Toronto yesterday announced funding for a $1.2-million affordable housing project to be built on vacant land on Parliament Street in Toronto. The spending on 24 affordable low-rise apartment homes comes though the Major Cities Stream of the Rapid Housing Initiative and the project will be led by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The targeted tenants are homeless people or those at risk of homelessness. 

 

Design-Build Institute launches training series June 22

The Canadian Design-Build Institute (CDBI) has announced a series of virtual training sessions on June 22, 25 and 29. The focus will be on delivering progressive design-build projects and the important issues facing design-build projects in Canada today. The June 22 session will be a collaboration between the CDBI and the Lean Construction Institute of Canada. 

 

Bloomington GO station to open June 28

The Ontario government yesterday announced it is commissioning the new Bloomington GO Station in Richmond Hill on June 28, further extending the Richmond Hill line into York Region. The new four-level GO station is located at Highway 404 and Bloomington Road and will connect riders to GO trains and buses. 

 

ALI Excavation Group lands Quebec hospital contract

The Societe quebecoise des Infrastructures announced Tuesday it has awarded a $4-million contract to ALI Excavation Group for preparatory work on the site of the 404-bed Vaudreuil-Soulanges, to serve residents of Monteregie-Ouest. The early works are already underway and the project is targeted for a 2026 finish.  

 

ORBA hosts supply chain risk webinar

The Ontario Road Builders’ Association will host its next webinar on June 24, on the topic Navigating Supply Chain Risk. Supply chain disruptions such as scarcity of materials, delays in projects due to government shutdowns sand unpredictable delivery and lead times for critical equipment will be among the topics discussed.
