BARRIE, ONT. — The Tiffin Street Supportive Housing Project under construction in Barrie, Ont. is getting more than $2.5 million from the Ontario government to help create 14 supportive housing units for people with mental health and addiction issues, people with disabilities and those experiencing homelessness.
This multi-residential, three-storey building, supported by the County of Simcoe, will be accessible and close to amenities such as public transportation, parks and grocery stores.
The Ontario government is also investing an additional $25 million annually in the new Homelessness Prevention Program which will simplify and streamline operations so municipal service managers spend more time working with clients to help find housing and other supports, indicates a release.
The announcement is part of the province’s Social Services Relief Fund, which has provided over $1.2 billion of support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
