Aecon announces financial close on Eglinton tunnel project

Aecon Group Inc. yesterday announced that West End Connectors has reached financial close on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Advance Tunnel project in Toronto. The contract value is $729.2 million. West End Connectors, selected by Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx to design, build and finance the project, is a consortium comprised of Aecon (40 per cent), Dragados Canada Inc. (40 per cent) and Ghella (20 per cent). The scope of work includes the design and construction of launch and extraction shafts, tunnels and headwalls, the installation of precast concrete tunnel liners, as well as other ancillary work. Construction is expected to commence in 2021, with estimated completion in the second quarter of 2025.  

 

Roof project benefits Windsor teens

The federal and provincial governments have announced completion of the Sandwich Teen Action Group (STAG) Roof Revitalization project in Windsor, Ont. The project involved replacing the roof over the east wing and gymnasium of the STAG community centre. The total value of the project is $78,000. 

 

CMHC announcement for Toronto

The Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Ahmed Hussen has scheduled a housing announcement for today for Toronto’s Scarborough community. The event is set for 11:30 a.m. EDT.  

 

New rec centre for King Township

King Township in Ontario will be the beneficiary of $38.7 million in funding from the federal and provincial governments towards construction of a $53-million new recreation centre. The facility will include twin ice pad surfaces, an indoor year-round pool and track, gym equipment and multipurpose fitness studio space. The centre will also house a multiuse field house with operable doors to surrounding amenities, including baseball and soccer fields. Energy efficient measures for the facility will include natural ventilation, reclaiming waste heat from the refrigeration system, and an open loop geothermal heat exchange. The township will contribute the remaining $14.1 million to the project.
