Gender Equality Week: The role construction plays

OTTAWA – Gender Equality Week runs until Sept. 24 and is meant to highlight the contributions women and gender-diverse people have made in shaping the country and to celebrate the strides that continue to take place each day.

“There is still much work to do. We know that gender equality benefits everyone: it helps grow the economy, leads to greater health and happiness, and promotes peace and security,” states Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a statement. “This year’s theme – Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities – inspires us to continue working together to break down the systemic barriers women and gender-diverse people face to success.”

In recognition of Gender Equality Week, the Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commerce are highlighting our Women in Construction Feature as well as some articles that reflect this year’s theme.

Our stories illustrate the efforts being made by those in the industry who are looking to make it more inclusive and diverse as well as the women who are striving for success, setting an example for those who want to follow.

“This Gender Equality Week, I encourage everyone to join the conversation by using the hashtag #GenderEqualityWeek. Together, we can achieve an equal Canada where everyone can have a fair chance at success,” added Trudeau.
