Honda Motor Co. plans to build an auto parts plant in Tallapoosa, Ga., and expand plants in Ohio and Lincoln, Ala.
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue and Koichi Kondo, president of Honda’s American operations, made the announcement in Atlanta.
The $100-million (all funds U.S.) Georgia plant is expected to begin operation in late 2006 and produce some 300,000 automatic transmissions annually, mainly for sport utility vehicles assembled at Honda’s Ohio plant, Kondo said. It is expected to create 400 jobs.
In Ohio, Honda will invest $100 million to expand Honda Transmission Mfg. of America Inc., which is in Russells Point, northwest of Columbus. The plant will be expanded to produce transmission gears.
