Cineplex to build three more

TORONTO

Cineplex Galaxy LP plans to build three more multi-screen theatres in Ontario, in addition to two others slated for construction in 2005 and 2006, the limited partnership has announced.

Cineplex Galaxy LP, which currently operates 86 theatres in six provinces, said it will build new theatres in Aurora, Burlington and the Ottawa suburb of Barrhaven.

They are in addition to two previously announced projects in Brockville, Ont. and Brossard, Que.

The 10-screen, 41,000-square-foot complex to be built in Aurora is being developed with Morguard REIT and scheduled to open this fall.

The theatre complex will be located in the Aurora Centre near the intersection of Bayview and Wellington.

Construction is slated to begin in the spring.

The Barrhaven complex will be constructed in a new centre at the corner of Greenbank Road and Strandherd Avenue.

The seven-screen, 27,000-square-foot entertainment complex is being developed in conjunction with Trinity Developments.

It is also scheduled to open this fall.

In Burlington, the company plans to build a 12-screen, 45,000-square-foot facility with more than 26,000 seats.

It is being developed with RioCan, Canada’s largest real estate investment trust exclusively focused on retail real estate.

Plans have the complex scheduled to open in the spring of 2006.

“These announcements are consistent with our previously announced new-build strategy of strategically building new theatres in under-served markets throughout Canada, utilizing our two top-tier theatre entertainment brands —Cineplex Odeon, designed for major urban centres, and our Galaxy Cinema brand, designed specifically for mid-sized markets,” said Pat Marshall, vice-president Communications and Investor Relations for Cineplex Galaxy LP.
