MONTREAL
The Lassonde Pavilions Project at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal received the 2007 Elixir Award from the Montreal chapter of PMI (Project Management Institute) during the chapter’s annual gala.
By winning the 2007 Elixir Award, the Ecole Polytechnique is eligible to participate in PMI’s international “Project of the Year” competition.
The Claudette-Mackay-Lassonde and Pierre Lassonde Pavilions consist of two buildings using an ecological and environmental approach based on sustainable development. This specific construction model, which aims to conserve both water and energy as well as recover waste during the building phase, makes the project entirely unique.
The project obtained international LEED certification, Gold category, in October 2005 — a first both for Quebec and Canadian universities.
“Our project achieved its objectives in terms of sustainable development, budget and schedule.
“This resounding success serves to further enhance the image of the Ecole Polytechnique,” affirms Michel Rose, project manager, Major Construction Projects Service, Ecole Polytechnique.
A sign of the times, the two other finalists for the 2007 Elixir Award — the Benny Farm Project and the TOHU Pavilion Project at Cit De des arts du cirque — were also “green” projects.
