New Democrat party headquarters is going green up top. About 9,000-square-feet of dirt and plants will be crane-lifted onto the roof of Jack Layton’s campaign headquarters in downtown Ottawa and then transformed into new urban green space.
“There are so many benefits to living roofs — we had to do it,” said New Democrat Party President Anne McGrath. “We are helping to reduce temperature, improve air quality, and our own energy consumption.”
“A living roof is not only a beautiful way to increase green space,” said Dave Cherry, co-owner of Job Done Construction Ltd. “We’re glad that Jack Layton took this initiative to help us raise awareness about the benefits of green roofs, and to encourage governments, businesses, [and] homeowners to take action.”
