Sobeys Inc. on Monday announced plans to begin construction of a new replacement head office building at 116 King Street in Stellarton, N.S.
Totaling approximately 55,000 square feet over three floors, the facility will replace Sobeys’ existing head office at 115 King Street, which has been the company’s headquarters since 1946.
Architectural features will include energy efficient natural lighting, solar hot water technology and heat reflective roofing to reduce the reliance on air conditioning in summer months.
Sobeys has awarded contracts to the following Nova Scotia firms:
- Architect: Anwyll Fogo Architects & Interior Ltd.
- Structural consultant: Campbell Comeau Engineering Ltd
- Mechanical and electrical consultant: F.C. O’Neill, Scriven & Associates Ltd.
- Civil consultant: MEC Engineering & Construction Services Ltd
- Landscape architect: Ekistics Planning & Design
Construction of the new headquarters is expected to begin early September 2010 and be completed by September 2011.
