Delegates from across Canada will converge in Quebec City this week for the 70th annual national conference of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada.

The theme of this year’s event, at the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, is “Shoot for Success; Score One for Your Business.”

Educational sessions include presentations on strengthening the Red Seal program; CDI (subguard) versus traditional surety bonds; estimating for advantage: it’s a hard, hard, hard (bid) world; and who will run your business when you’re gone.

Also on the agenda is a one-day service contractors’ forum on increasing a firm’s maintenance base to grow profits.

Keynote speaker at the opening breakfast is Canadian Football League legend and Toronto Argonauts vice-chair Mike “Pinball” Clemons.

Certificates of appreciation will be handed out to associate members at the closing awards breakfast. The Doug Crawford memorial award will be presented as well. In addition, members of the Mechanical Service Contractors of Canada who have achieved contractor certification will be recognized.

Social events include a hockey night in Quebec tournament. Delegates will compete in a number of activities.

“In true, MCA Canada tradition, this conference will have plenty of quality educational programs, social and networking opportunities, terrific companions’ programs and memorable and exciting social events,” says, association chair, Brad Diggens of Calgary.

The conference takes place Sept. 14 to 17. Some 250 delegates are expected.

The association’s role is to “encourage, support and promote” the advancement of the mechanical contracting industry. It represents close to 1,000 companies.
