Borden, Ontario military base to have $4 million of construction work
The Canadian Department of National Defence announced over $4 million for projects that will improve the quality of the infrastructure at Canadian Forces Base in Borden, Ontario.

Over $4 million worth of infrastructure projects were recently announced by the federal government for Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden, west of Barrie, Ontario. Conctracts were awarded to A-Con Construction Ltd. and Solid General Contractors Inc. Monteith Building Group Ltd. will upgrade the ventilation and air conditioning system in the Food Services School.

Over $4 million worth of infrastructure projects were recently announced by the federal government for Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden.

A $1.5 million contract was awarded to Stoburn Construction Ltd. of Orillia, Ont., for the construction of a gymnasium.

A $158,900 contract went to A-Con Construction Ltd. of Woodbridge, Ont., for the recapitalization of residential housing units at CFB-Borden, expected to be complete by mid-July of this year.

Recapitalization work is ongoing with A-Con Construction Ltd. and Solid General Contractors Inc. to complete an additional 29 residential housing units started last year, and there is a contract for four units still to be tendered.

The total contract value over two years is $3 million with approximately 16 direct employment opportunities.

These projects include complete plumbing replacement, electrical and mechanical system upgrades, new windows, doors, flooring, drywall, improved insulation, and the addition of air conditioning.

Another investment includes the beginning of work for upgrades to the ventilation and air conditioning system in the Food Services School.

The construction work from this investment amounts up to $2.8 million. An initial $1.3 million contract has already been awarded to Monteith Building Group Ltd. of Woodbridge for this project.

In line with the Canada First Defence Strategy, there is a need to update and replace dated defence infrastructure in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

The Government of Canada conducted an open, fair and transparent competitive process to award each of these contracts.
