Officials with the City of St. Catharines, Ontario recently broke ground on the $6-million Merritton fire hall, designed by Venerino V.P. Panici Architect Inc. and under construction by Charter Building Company.
Designated as Station 4 and located on Merritt Street near Oakdale, the 16,000-square foot facility will include a 120-foot communications tower. It will serve as the city’s centre for emergency operations and house its secure data storage and communications functions, according to a recent press release.
The new fire hall is scheduled to open in 2013.
It will include a workout room and emergency showers and is intended to accommodate four full-time firefighters and seven communications and training staff. It will have a water recovery system designed to capture, store and reuse water during training exercises.
