The City of Ottawa announced Tuesday that Ottawa Community Ice Partners, which includes Morley Hoppner, has been selected as the "preferred proponent" for a contract to design, build, finance, own, operate and maintain an arena in Shefford Park.
A request for proposals was issued last spring for the project, which would include at least two ice pads.
Ottawa Community Ice Partners is proposing four ice pads at the park, located in the northeast area of the city near the Montreal Road-Queensway interchange. Ottawa Community Ice Partners is a non-profit organization whose members include the Ottawa Senators hockey club, Ottawa Senators Alumni and Morley Hoppner, which provides development and construction services.
The proposal is scheduled for discussion at the Finance and Economic Development Committee meeting on August 27 and by full Council September 12.
"Upon approval, the City will enter into negotiations with OCIP," the city stated in a press release. "Staff will report back to Committee and Council by year-end with recommendations on whether to proceed with this project and the preferred proponent’s proposal."
