Ghost scares construction worker away from project

Daily Commercial News

Though stories of hauntings usually gain prominence around today on Halloween, one construction worker left a project in an Arlington, Va. neighbourhood in February after a run-in with an alleged ghost.

ARLINGTON, VA.

Though stories of hauntings usually gain prominence around today on Halloween, one construction worker left a project in an Arlington, Va. neighbourhood in February after a run-in with an alleged ghost.

As construction crews were preparing to demolish the 100-year-old Febrey house, as part of a renovation to the Overlee Community Pool, one worker spotted a little girl in a window of the house.

He went inside, reports the Washington Examiner, and then saw the girl sitting on the basement stairs. He then turned around and back to find that she had disappeared. This apparent ghostly experience proved to be enough reason for the worker to stop working at the site.

The construction worker packed up his tools and asked to be relocated to a different project, media reports indicate.

Before construction started on the project, the pool’s board of directors sent contractors emails about the house’s history and the possibility of a ghost sighting of Margaret A. Febrey, the daughter of the original homeowners who died in 1913, reports the Washington Post.

The pool was opened in 1957 and the Febrey house served as the pool’s clubhouse for years.

No other sightings were reported during construction of the project.

Ghosts are typically thought to haunt some homes well after the hammering in building them is done. Ever give any thought to how these apparitions affect a home’s market value? The website www.toptenrealestatedeals.com has listed its ‘Top Ten Scariest Homes for Sale.’

Among the homes on the list is the Buxton Inn, Ohio’s oldest continually running bed and breakfast, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary.

The nearly 30,000-square-foot property, comprised of 10 buildings, is considered one of Ohio’s most haunted spots and is listed at $3.9 million. Recently, a group of ghost hunters caught a detailed “electronic voice phenomenon” during an overnight investigation, reports the real estate website. Reportedly, a lady in blue is said to float about the property trying to find her “disembodied feet.”

The infamous house on Lake Weir in Florida where Kate “Ma” Barker and her son Fred made their last stand in the longest shootout in the FBI’s history is for sale for $1 million. Rumour has it that Ma Barker’s ghost still haunts the homestead.

A farmhouse near Olean, N.Y., that was once a stagecoach stop, has scared off owners since the 1850s. The farmhouse is listed at $289,000.

“According to neighbors, friends, clergy and ghost experts who were brave or foolish enough to visit the home, there are 12 or more not-so-friendly ghosts who are frequently seen in or around the house,” reports www.toptenrealestatedeals.com.
