NEW GLASGOW, N.S.
National defence minister Peter MacKay recently announced plans to construct a new armoury in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
This new facility will be a modern, purpose-built building that will allow personnel to train more efficiently and effectively. The planned work includes site preparation, construction of the building complex, vehicle parking and utilities, as well as landscaping.
This project is currently in its design phase. Once this phase is completed, the project will be assessed prior to the start of construction and costs will then be solidified. The Government of Canada will conduct open, fair, and transparent competition processes in order to award the contracts associated with this project. The design phase is slated for completion by spring 2013.
This new building will replace the existing facility which was built in the 1940s, purchased by Department of National Defence in the 1960s, and has since undergone several renovations.
