TORONTO

Paramount Structures Ltd. of Bolton, Ont., has been fined $50,000 for an incident where equipment fell from a condo that was under construction in Toronto.

The company, along with a supervisor and worker were fined.

On Oct. 13, 2011 at 1 Market Place, supervisor Luis Pavao was assigned to move equipment to one of the upper floors of the condo site. Carlos Cordeiro, who was one of the workers, was in charge of overseeing the placement of a piece of equipment called a “fly table”.

The “fly table” was not secured properly as it was hoisted up and slid to the ground after becoming unbalanced. It landed on a nearby railway property. No one was hit by the table.

Folllowing a Ministry of Labour investigation, Paramount Structures pleaded guilty for failing to ensure that all aspects of the project had proper support that would prevent a collapse.

Pavao pleaded guilty for the same charge and was fined $3,000.

Cordeiro was fined $2,000 after pleading guilty for the same charge as well.
