Sail Plein Air Inc. announces three new outlets, new warehouse

MONTREAL — Outdoor sports retailer Sail Plein Air Inc. has announced plans to open three new stores this fall and also build a new warehouse to handle online orders.

Sail Plein Air operates retail outlets under the Sail and Sportium brands. There are currently 11 Sail outlets, five of them in Quebec and six in Ontario, and three Sportium outlets, all in Quebec, said a recent release.

The three new outlets will include two Sail stores, one in Chicoutimi and one in Lachenaie, and one Sportium, in Kirkland, all in Quebec. Total retail space at the outlets will be more than 150,000 square feet.

Over the last four years, Sail Plein Air Inc. has invested about $100 million to develop its two store networks including $40 million this fall. The new 70,000-square-foot warehouse will open next March on the South Shore of Montreal.

“As major upheavals rock the retail industry, largely due to the growing popularity of online shopping and ever-increasing competition in the ‘brick-and-mortar’ sector, we are continuing to grow our two sales channels more than ever,” said Sail Plein Air president and CEO Norman Decarie in the release.
