Former DCN editor fondly remembered, ‘often found reading the newspaper’

TORONTO—Former Daily Commercial News editor Alfred Haslam Bird has passed away at the age of 94.

Bird, who died Oct. 6, was born in Toronto and grew up in West Toronto Junction. He was pre-deceased by his wife Alma. He is survived by his daughter Elaine, son-in-law Scott, grandson Joshua and other family and friends.

He had a long and successful career as a journalist, indicates an obituary from Humphrey Funeral Home, adding he was a reporter and editor for various publications from local papers to industry magazines. He retired from the Daily Commercial News as an editor.

Alfred cared about the world around him and was often found reading the newspaper and engaging in discussion with friends and family about politics or world events, the obituary states.
