PwC Canada honours industry visionaries with 2017 innovator of the year awards

TORONTO — Upbrella Construction, Humber River Hospital and McKesson Canada’s RelayHealth were named winners of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Canada’s 2017 Vision to Reality Innovator of the Year Awards.

The awards ceremony took place at the Arcadian Loft in Toronto on June 1.

The applications were reviewed by an independent panel of judges, explains a release, and were submitted this year in three categories, including the disruptor: small organizations; the builder: mid-market organizations; and the visionary: large organizations.

The 2017 Vision to Reality Innovator of the Year Award winners are as follows:

Disruptors category (up to $25 million): Upbrella Construction — Unlike traditional construction, Upbrella highrise construction starts with the roof and doesn’t need a tower crane. The roof is equipped with lifting actuators, handling equipment and a protective enclosure.

Builder category ($25 million to $500 million): Humber River Hospital — North America’s first fully digital hospital, it provides an environment where processes are fully automated and where environmental and patient monitoring coupled with the development of new technologies ensure safer, high reliability, efficient care, adds the release;

Visionary category ($500-million plus): McKesson Canada’s RelayHealth — Using SaaS technology, RelayHealth is a powerful web-based interface that provides complete and secure information flow between patients and all their health care providers, wherever they are located.

"The winners and finalists are the kind of organizations Canada needs to compete on a global stage and show how innovation can help solve everyday problems," said Tahir Ayub, managing partner, markets and industries at PwC Canada. "We’re happy to see that different types of industries such as health care, construction and urban planning are paving the way for the future by investing more time and energy in developing innovative technologies to become more efficient."
