Chartwell plans $70M expansion in Oshawa

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Chartwell Retirement Residences recently announced it has acquired two acres of land on Woodmount Drive in Oshawa, Ont. to expand its Chartwell Wynfield Retirement Community.

Construction is expected to begin in 2019 on a six-storey, 200-suite Independent Supportive Living apartment residence, adding to the existing 105 retirement suites and 172 long-term-care beds, a statement released recently said. The new facility is expected to open in 2020 and will include a memory living environment.

“The seniors population in Oshawa is expected to grow 56 per cent within the next 10 years. We expect to invest over $70 million into this development to support the evolving needs of the community,” commented Vlad Volodarski, Chartwell’s chief financial officer, in the statement.

Chartwell’s development program includes plans for 20 projects across Canada with an investment of over $1 billion over the next several years, the firm said.
