SNC-Lavalin subsidiary competes for U.K. housing projects

MONTREAL — Quebec-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin has announced that its subsidiary EDAROTH has been named as part of the team that will participate in a new £47-billion developer-led public affordable housing plan in the United Kingdom.

EDAROTH (Everybody Deserves A Roof Over Their Head) specializes in development management, design and engineering services and off-site manufacturing techniques, stated a recent release. The model leads to a 50-per-cent faster build than traditional home development, a 50-per-cent reduction in heating costs and net zero carbon emissions.

Under the housing framework, EDAROTH will have the opportunity to bid on projects across the U.K. including projects that reclaim publicly owned brownfields and underutilized lands. EDAROTH completed its first social housing development in February and has also secured a place on a $1.7-billion housing framework, stated the release.

“EDAROTH is an example of how innovation and technology can enable us to provide better infrastructure solutions to our clients and communities. We developed this innovative solution having identified a trend in social and economic issues related to the future lack of affordable housing,” said SNC-Lavalin CEO Ian Edwards in a statement. “We are able to take brownfield sites in need of regeneration and create living spaces to help governments and local authorities meet housing needs in a sustainable and efficient way.”
