HE inaugurates new rail spur at Quebec distribution centre

HE inaugurates new rail spur at Quebec distribution centre

SAINT-THOMAS, QUE. — Harnois Energies (HE) has announced it has completed construction of a new rail spur at its Saint-Thomas distribution centre in Quebec.

The inauguration of the two new access tracks now make it possible for HE to load propane gas into a specialized tank at its Saint-Thomas facilities. Other products such as aviation fuel and urea can also be received directly at this location, stated a release.

Previously, HE shipped propane by truck from a supply site to its tank in Saint-Thomas. With the new rail access, the equivalent of 240 trucks will be removed from the road each year.

In addition, HE said the new infrastructure will lead to increased supply chain efficiency. HE distributes petroleum products, propane, lubricants and specialty products across Canada, and is looking to incorporate electric charging stations and a gas station that offers hydrogen in the future.

The project was valued at almost $4 million. HE paid for half and the Quebec government spent $1.9 million.

“The realization of this project is the result of excellent teamwork between our teams and external partners. HE is looking toward the future and is taking action to reduce its environmental footprint and, therefore, ensure the company’s sustainability,” said HE CEO Serge Harnois in a statement.
