VAUGHAN, ONT. — AlpenFury, which will be the longest, tallest and fastest launch coaster in the country when complete later this year, is beginning to rise in all its twisted glory at Canada’s Wonderland.
This month major headway was made on the ride with the first tracks being laid and the support columns installed.
In a November update, Peter Switzer, director of maintenance and construction at Wonderland, said ride foundations were going in and modifications were being undertaken inside Wonder Mountain.
Structural steel and changes to the “skin of the mountain” were also being carried out.
When complete, AlpenFury will feature 105 track pieces, plus a transfer track.
The coaster will span 1,000 metres across the park, reaching speeds of 115 km/h, flipping and twisting through nine inversions. That is the most of any launch coaster in North America.
“When fire and ice come together inside the mysterious Wonder Mountain, the force will propel riders into a thrilling journey beginning with a launch that blasts the train out the summit, 50 metres into the sky,” states a release on the amusement park’s website.
Designed by Premier Rides, AlpenFury will be the park’s 19th roller-coaster, the fourth to interact with Wonder Mountain and the signature attraction in Alpenfest, which will be officially designated a themed area of the park this year.
