2014 Prairie Design Awards winners announced

The Prairie Design Awards, held last week at the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s 2014 Festival of Architecture in Winnipeg, MB lauded the best of western Canada’s architectural work.

The Prairie Design Awards, held last week at the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada's 2014 Festival of Architecture in Winnipeg, MB lauded the best of western Canada's architectural work.

In the “recent work” category, an award of excellence was given to the University of Manitoba ART Lab, located in Winnipeg. The architect of record was LM Architectural Group and the design as by Patkau Architects Inc. Another Winnipeg project, the Avenue on Portage, won an award of excellence in the category for 5468796 Architects Inc.

Awards of merit in the "recent work" category went to Douglas Park School in Regina, SK, designed by Number Ten Architectural Group, and the Graduate House of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon by Stantec Architecture Ltd. Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd.’s work on Northgate Transit Centre in Edmonton, AB also won an award of merit, as did the Jasper Place Branch Library, also in Edmonton, with design by Hughes Condon Marler Architects and DUB Architects Ltd.

Manitoba Start in Winnipeg, MB won 5468796 Architecture Inc. and award of merit in the “interior design” category. In the “landscape architecture” category, the award of excellence went to the marc boutin architectural collaborative inc. for their work on the Landscape of Memory: Poppy Plaza in Calgary, AB, and the award of merit went to Straub Thurmayr CSLA Landschaftsarchitekten and Urban Designers for the Folly Forest in Winnipeg, MB.

The Assiniboine Park Washrooms in Winnipeg, MB by Peter Sampson won an award of excellence in the “small projects” category, and Fiskoist in Gimli, MB won an award of merit for Liane Veness, Architect.
