On this episode of the Construction Record Podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with Walnut Foundation vice-president Anthony Henry and International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) union representative Ivan Dawns about prostate cancer awareness in the construction industry, particularly amongst Black men who are among those at highest risk of contracting the disease.
Henry highlighted the work of the Walnut Foundation to build awareness and encourage early testing to prevent and treat prostate cancer and the foundations’s signature event, the annual “Walk The Path” Walkathon which will take place on June 5, 2023.
Dawns spoke to the importance of prostate cancer awareness in the construction industry, which remains a male-dominated profession with an increasingly ageing population. He also shared personal stories of prostate cancer and pointed out while men contract the disease, women also suffer as partners father and sons are taken from them.
