Mattamy announces 1,300-unit community near Orlando

ORLANDO, FLA. — Canada’s Mattamy Homes recently announced it has signed a deal to purchase land within the Celebration master-planned community in Osceola County, Fla. with the intention of building 1,310 residential units.

Mattamy, which bills itself as one of North America’s largest privately owned homebuilders, agreed with the Celebration Company to purchase Island Village, a property that represents the largest village within Celebration based on land area, roughly 350 acres, and also unit count. The announcement was issued Sept. 25.

Osceola County is located near the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and was originally developed by the Celebration Company, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company.

Celebration Island Village is the southern-most parcel within Celebration.

The property has entitlements for 1,014 single-family homes, 296 apartments, 30,000 square feet of neighbourhood commercial space, an elementary school and five acres for parks or civic uses.

Mattamy said in the statement it will be considering a product range of townhomes to estate homes, and said it will be designing a new product portfolio for Celebration Island Village.

"The Celebration model has long been an inspiration for us at Mattamy Homes as we envision how we want to build our own communities," says Peter Gilgan, CEO of Mattamy Homes.

Mattamy Homes anticipates sales will begin in late 2019.

The firm has sold 90,000 homes in nine markets in the U.S. — Charlotte, Phoenix, Tucson, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Sarasota, Naples and southeast Florida — and in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton in Canada.
