Lemay wins Beaconsfield cultural centre design contest

Lemay wins Beaconsfield cultural centre design contest

BEACONSFIELD, QUE. — Beaconsfield City Council in Quebec has officially endorsed Lemay-Bouthillette Parizeau-Elema to design a multipurpose cultural centre in the city.

The new facility is part of a plan to revitalize the city’s Centennial Park and Marina. Lemay-Bouthillette Parizeau-Elema was selected by a jury in an architectural competition that attracted 32 entrants, stated a recent release.

At its July 15 meeting, city council asked staff to continue to work towards awarding contracts for the preparation of plans and specifications for the facility this fall.

Architect Philippe Drolet was hired in 2023 to oversee an architectural competition. Additionally, financial support of $3.1 million was granted by the provincial and federal governments under a cultural benefits program.

Construction of the cultural centre is estimated to cost $18 million.

There were four finalists in the competition.

“The winning project blends harmoniously into the picturesque landscape of Centennial Park and responds best to the recommendations identified in the Report on Public Consultations and Creative Workshops for the Revitalization of Centennial Park and the Lord Reading Property,” stated the city.
