Quebec construction contractor Pomerleau acquires Neilson

Pomerleau Inc.’s offer to acquire the assets of Neilson Inc, a major firm specializing in civil engineering and infrastructure in Quebec and Western Canada, has been accepted.

Pomerleau Inc.’s offer to acquire the assets of Neilson Inc, a major firm specializing in civil engineering and infrastructure in Quebec and Western Canada, has been accepted.

“The acquisition will allow Ponerleau to expand its range of services with new cutting-edge expertise and strengthen its position in the growth markets of energy, infrastructure and the Plan Nord,” said Pierre Pomerleau, president and chief executive officer of Pomerleau, Quebec’s largest construction company.

“All will be implemented to leverage the synergy between these two organizations and pave the way for their respective and accelerated growth.”

The two companies hope to conclude the transation by Sept. 30. The amount of the deal will remain confidential.

Founded in 1963, Neilson has vast experience in the construction of dams, bridges, tunnels, piping systems, gas networks and earthworks.

During the last several years, the company has been involved in the construction of over 10 hydroelectric generation stations, including Wuskwatim in Manitoba and Eastmain 1A and the Rupert Dam in James Bay.

It has also worked on the St. Lawrence pipeline (Ultramar), the Laval subway tunnel and the tunnel for the Galore Creek gold mine in British Columbia.

Neilson’s employees will continue to operate from the company’s current head office in Saint-Nicolas, Que., near Quebec City.

Pomerleau was established in 1965 and is co-owner of Borea Construction.
