SASKATOON—A Saskatchewan man who admitted to collecting workers compensation long after he had gone back to work has escaped jail time, but must pay back more than $22,000.
Carey Nelson Lobzun, a 58-year-old Kindersley resident, was given a two-year community sentence on Dec. 1 after pleading guilty to fraud over $5,000.
Court heard Lobzun went on workers’ compensation in 2007, but continued to collect payments after he returned to his job. He’s been ordered to make payments of at least $400 a month. Lobzun’s lawyer said his client has already started paying back some of the money and is extremely remorseful for his actions. He also said the accused has no criminal record, noting that drug abuse was a factor in the crime.
