Last week we launched the first instalment of Cracks in the Foundation: Mental Health, Substance Use and Construction, a DCN-JOC Special Series. It featured five articles with information spanning North America on the impacts of substance use in construction. It was meant to set the stage and show readers the seriousness of this crisis that plagues the industry. Here are this instalment’s stories we hope will help move this conversation forward and help find solutions on these issues.
Pandemic a factor in increased substance use among construction industry workers
Ontario’s ‘other pandemic’: Construction most impacted industry
Western construction workers heavily represented in overdose deaths
St. Louis marks the front line of construction’s opioid battle in U.S.
*Our second instalment will feature firsthand accounts from those who were willing to share their stories of addiction and mental health struggles. It will be released in October.
