The Windsor Construction Association has recognized outstanding achievements in projects built in the period from 2002 to 2010 with presentation of its 2011 Awards of Construction Excellence.

In all, 51 projects were awarded Excellence, Distinction and Merit awards in more than 12 distinct categories, ranging from residential, industrial, commercial, institutional and roads and highways to environmental.

“This is a feel-good event,” said association executive director Jim Lyons. “Handing out this number of awards allows us to cover more territory and recognize more of the good work that is going on out there.”

Awards for each project acknowledged the general contractor, architect/consultant, owners, sub contractors and suppliers.

In all, 171 projects throughout E ssex County were nominated by the closing deadline in July.

The awards were last presented in 2003.

“We try to stagger the event every five years or so,” Lyons said. “But our 100th anniversary celebrations in 2008 got in the middle of things. So we decided to postpone the awards. As a result, we got lots of submissions and lots of good projects.”

The 2011 awards were presented at a banquet Dec. 3 at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts. In attendance were close to 500 industry representatives and customers.

The Windsor Construction Association represents 335 firms while its sister Heavy Construction Association has 85 members.
