TIMMINS, ONT. — The Ontario government has broken ground on a new health care facility for the Francophone community in Timmins and the surrounding area.
The Centre de sante communautaire de Timmins (CSC Timmins) is receiving $1.1 million for early planning work in addition to the $15.6 million the province will be spending towards construction of the new facility, stated a release.
CSC Timmins focuses on patients with complex health needs without a primary care provider. Once complete, the new facility will be able to provide Franco Ontarians in the community with access to approximately 18,000 primary care visits and connect up to 20,000 people to the centre’s health programs each year.
“The new Centre de sante communautaire de Timmins facility will connect the Francophone community in the region to the comprehensive and culturally appropriate health care services they need in one modern location, for years to come,” stated Minister of Health Sylvia Jones in the release.
The government has pledged nearly $50 billion over the next 10 years to build and expand hospitals, including $36 billion in capital grants. This includes supporting more than 50 hospital projects that would add approximately 3,000 new beds over 10 years.
