The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) has presented its 2009 honourary life member award to Jack Flemming, chairman and founder of Dartmouth-based Ocean Contractors Ltd.
The award recognizes service to the association, the construction industry and the community at large.
CANS said Flemming is widely recognized for his philanthropic activities. Throughout his career, he has been the recipient of numerous community and professional awards including the Order of Canada.
A former chairman of the Canadian Construction Association, Flemming also is a past president of the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association and the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia as well as CANS.
“His involvement with industry associations was always at the highest levels, providing leadership and direction on such issues as training, apprenticeship and prequalification,” CANS said.
Over the years, Flemming also has been involved with various charities, including the Flemming Charitable Foundation, which has become a family-wide activity since it was started 10 years ago.
He received the CANS award during the association’s recent 147th annual general meeting in Digby.
