Bluewater Health has opened a new seven-storey, 325,000 square foot addition at its Norman Street site in Sarnia, Ont.

Bluewater Health has opened a new seven-storey, 325,000 square foot addition at its Norman Street site in Sarnia, Ont.

The addition more than doubles the size of the facility and is designed to improve the community’s access to health care services.

Features of the new hospital will include:

  • A surgical centre and emergency department;
  • Expanded acute care wards; and
  • Consolidated maternal infant and child program.

The Norman Building will open for patient care on July 3.

Construction of the hospital addition began in October 2007 and was completed in April 2010. At the peak of construction, more than 300 construction workers were on-site daily.

The new facility was designed to achieve LEED certification.

The hospital will remain publicly owned and publicly controlled.
